Practical guide and verification
Base64 is an encoding, not a file type
Base64 represents bytes as text. Decoding restores the byte sequence, but the decoder cannot guarantee what file format those bytes represent or whether the data is safe to open.
Data URI prefixes
Some inputs begin with `data:...;base64,`. The metadata prefix is not part of the Base64 payload itself, so a decoder should separate it before converting the encoded bytes.
File names and MIME types
A suggested extension or MIME type can help save the output, but file content should be inspected independently when the source is untrusted. Renaming bytes does not convert the underlying format.
