Hash Generator

Use cryptographic hashes for integrity/fingerprints where appropriate; use a password-hashing/KDF workflow—not a fast SHA/MD5 digest—when storing passwords.

SHA-256 is a strong general-purpose cryptographic digest for new checksum/integrity workflows.
Algorithm contextMD5 and SHA-1 are retained for legacy compatibility. CRC32 detects accidental corruption and is not a cryptographic hash.

Integrity and authenticity are different jobs

connects text/file digests, checksum verification and HMAC workflows. Hashes compare exact bytes; HMAC additionally depends on a shared secret key.

Password-storage boundary

Fast hashes such as SHA-256, SHA-1 and MD5 are not password-storage schemes. Production password storage should use a purpose-built slow password hashing/KDF design with salts and reviewed parameters; legacy algorithms remain here only for compatibility and checksum workflows.

How to use this Hash Generator

Choose a digest algorithm and output encoding, type or paste text, then copy the locally computed digest. The page shows the UTF-8 byte size used as hash input.
