HTML List Generator

Generate safe list markup locally with ordered-list start control and copy-ready HTML.

ReadyEach item is HTML-escaped before insertion, so pasted <tags> remain literal list text.

DOMParser ≠ sanitizer
Ready to inspect source and result.

Review is local and detached: this panel never inserts pasted markup into the live page. A browser parser can normalize malformed HTML, but successful parsing does not make markup safe to inject. Scripts, inline event attributes and embedded browsing/plugin elements are reported as active-content signals, not executed.

Browser-local does not mean standards-complete

HTML parsing is error tolerant. Source diagnostics, sandboxed previews, and transformations do not replace full conformance, security, or production-browser testing.

Generated list markup escapes item text

Review the output as HTML after generation. Pasted tags in item text should remain literal content rather than becoming new elements.

Parser and sanitizer boundary

HTML DOMParser creates a detached document and may repair or normalize markup. That is useful for inspection, but parsing alone does not sanitize untrusted HTML. Review scripts, inline event attributes, embedded content and application-specific URL/context rules before any live-DOM insertion.

Use this result with confidence

Choose list semantics before formatting

Use an ordered list when sequence or rank matters and an unordered list when it does not. The visual marker can be changed with CSS, but ol and ul still communicate different meaning to browsers and assistive technology. Select the semantic element first, then choose numbering or bullet style.

Escape item text as data

List items can contain ampersands, angle brackets, quotes, and text copied from code or user input. Escape those characters so they remain content rather than becoming unintended HTML. If list items are intentionally allowed to contain markup, use a separate sanitization policy and review the permitted elements explicitly.

Nested lists need a clear source convention

Indentation, tabs, or prefixes can represent hierarchy, but the generator and the source must agree on the rule. Before converting a large outline, test two or three nesting levels and verify where child lists are attached. A visually indented source is not automatically a valid tree.

Verify ordered-list start values

When continuing a sequence, the start attribute should reflect the intended first number, not the count of source lines. Negative or unusual start values may be valid HTML but can surprise downstream styles or exports. Preview the rendered list and copy the markup only after the numbering matches the document.
