JSON Diff & Compare

Review added, removed, and changed values without letting object key order or formatting noise hide the real difference.

Semantic JSON diff & RFC 6902 patch lab

Reuse the two primary JSON documents above. Review structural changes by JSON Pointer, optionally ignore array order for set-like review, and export an exact RFC 6902 patch only in ordered mode.

Trust and standards boundaries

Formatting is not schema validation, Base64 is not encryption, URL normalization is not a privacy guarantee, UUID metadata is not provenance, and decoded JWT claims are not trusted until cryptographic and application-specific validation succeeds. RS256 tools accept explicit PEM key formats and do not fetch issuer keys or make authorization decisions.

How to use this JSON Diff & Compare

Paste an original and changed document, compare them, then filter added, removed, or changed paths so the important differences stay visible.

Use this result with confidence

Compare parsed structure, not formatting noise

Whitespace and object-key order do not change JSON data semantics. A useful diff parses both documents first and reports differences by path. Keep type changes visible because 1 and "1", false and "false", or null and a missing key can behave very differently in an API even when the text looks similar.

Choose array semantics before reviewing changes

Arrays are ordered by definition, but some business payloads use them like sets. Ordered comparison is appropriate for sequences and an exact JSON Patch. Ignore-array-order review is useful when item order is irrelevant, but it is a different semantic model. Record the chosen mode so reviewers understand why moves were or were not reported.

Treat RFC 6902 Patch as an exact transform

A JSON Patch should describe operations that transform the original ordered document into the changed document. If the review ignores array order or other paths, the visual comparison may no longer correspond to one exact patch. Keep normalized review options separate from the patch you intend to apply to production data.

Test representative API edge cases

Include nested arrays, null values, missing keys, empty objects, large numbers, and explicit type changes in regression samples. Diff tools are easiest to trust when a small known fixture produces the expected paths and patch operations before the same settings are used on a large production response.
