Mouse DPI Calculator

Measure a known physical mouse travel distance and corresponding on-screen pointer pixels. The result is an effective setup estimate, not a direct sensor CPI readout.

Measure consistently

  1. Disable or document pointer acceleration if you want repeatable comparisons.
  2. Mark a physical start/end distance for the mouse.
  3. Record the corresponding pointer movement in CSS pixels under the same browser/display scaling.
  4. Repeat several passes and compare the estimates instead of trusting one pass.
Effective cursor DPI can differ from the mouse sensor's configured CPI/DPI because OS pointer settings, acceleration, browser/display scaling, and raw-input modes change the relationship between physical travel and cursor pixels.

Measured movement track

Measure browser-visible pointer movement over a known physical mouse distance instead of manually entering a pixel count. This is an effective browser measurement, not raw sensor CPI.

Press, move the mouse horizontally, then release

For repeatability, use a longer measured sweep and repeat in both directions.

eDPI, cm/360 & reverse sensitivity

Bridge the measured effective DPI to game sensitivity while keeping the sensor-CPI boundary explicit.

Browser-local does not mean laboratory measurement

These pages can report Web API data such as events, stream settings, frame timing and audio samples. They do not certify hardware condition or bypass browser and operating-system limits.

Effective browser movement units are not relabeled as sensor CPI

The calculation is CSS-pointer-pixels per measured inch, with a DPR-based device-pixel equivalent shown only as an estimate. OS acceleration and raw-input game paths can differ materially.

Practical guide and verification

Use the interactive product above first. These notes add interpretation, verification and limits below the results and product controls.

Measure a long enough physical movement

A one-inch or several-centimeter sweep reduces the relative effect of a one-pixel reading error. Mark the start and end points on the desk or mouse pad, then move in a straight line without lifting the mouse.

Browser-visible movement is not raw sensor CPI

Operating-system acceleration, pointer scaling, browser CSS pixels and display scaling can all sit between the sensor and this page. Treat the measured value as effective browser movement unless you have independently disabled or characterized those layers.

Repeat in both directions

Run several left-to-right and right-to-left passes over the same physical distance. A stable setup should cluster reasonably tightly; a large spread suggests acceleration, inconsistent endpoints, surface tracking or measurement error.

eDPI is a comparison convention, not universal sensitivity

DPI multiplied by an in-game sensitivity value is useful only within games or engines whose sensitivity scales are comparable. Do not compare raw eDPI across unrelated games unless a yaw or rotation model is included.

Use cm per 360 for physical comparison

When the game yaw model is known, centimeters per full turn is often easier to compare across DPI settings than a sensitivity number alone. Re-check the in-game rotation with a measured mouse sweep before relying on the calculated target.
