“Alphanumeric” can mean ASCII A–Z and 0–9, or it can include accented letters and non-Latin Unicode letters and digits. This tool intentionally keeps Unicode letters and numbers. If a destination system accepts only ASCII identifiers, validate that requirement separately instead of assuming every visible letter will be accepted.
Removing punctuation can join tokens that were previously distinct: “AB-12” can become “AB12”, while removing spaces can join whole words. Choose the whitespace option to match the destination, then inspect a sample containing spaces, tabs, line breaks, hyphens, apostrophes, emoji, and accented text before transforming a large dataset.
Punctuation may be meaningful in filenames, product codes, account references, version numbers, dates, URLs, and programming syntax. Keep the original text and do not overwrite the only copy until the cleaned output has been checked against the format that will receive it. A visually simpler value is not automatically an equivalent identifier.
Compare character, line, and UTF-8 byte counts before and after cleanup, then inspect the beginning, middle, and end of the result. For structured lists, test a few known rows manually. If removed characters carried boundaries that cannot be reconstructed, record the transformation rule with the exported text so another person can reproduce it.
