For the list 4, 7, -2 and 11, the sum is 20. When pasting data, compare the parsed item count with the number of values you expected so a blank line, delimiter or non-numeric token does not silently change the intended total.

Rule: sum = x₁ + x₂ + … + xₙ. Paste a clean numeric list; verify separators and omitted values before using totals in downstream work. For a final check, estimate the expected size of the answer before copying it, keep units consistent, and round only the displayed result rather than intermediate values. Re-enter one simple case by hand when possible; a result with the wrong sign or order of magnitude usually points to an input or reference-base mistake.
