Verify the source before trusting the render

Decode locally, confirm sample rate, channels, duration and level evidence, then apply the transformation. Keep codec, browser decode and export-format limits explicit.

Codec and measurement boundaries

Browser decoding differs across Safari, Chrome, Firefox, iOS, and Android. Rendered edits are exported as WAV unless a tool explicitly states another supported container. Loudness analysis is a practical BS.1770-style estimate rather than a certified meter, and sample clipping checks do not replace true-peak oversampling.

Inspect the channel you intend

The waveform viewer can switch among decoded channels rather than always forcing channel 1, while overall peak/RMS context remains available.

Use this result with confidence

Choose the channel you intend to inspect

Stereo files can have very different left and right waveforms. The current viewer can select channels while its preflight cards summarize decoded properties. Inspect both channels when checking balance, clipping, silence, or edits; a clean left channel does not prove the right channel is clean.

Zoom changes what problems are visible

A whole-file waveform is useful for loud sections and long gaps, while a narrow window reveals individual transients and edit boundaries. Keep the start position and visible width with any screenshot or note so another reviewer can reproduce the same view instead of guessing where the feature occurred.

Peak and RMS describe different signal properties

Peak level catches instantaneous extremes; RMS relates more closely to average signal energy over the measured samples. Neither alone describes perceived loudness, frequency balance, or clipping history. Use the waveform and preflight values together, and use a dedicated loudness or spectrum tool when that is the real question.

Decoded PCM is not the same as the compressed source

MP3, AAC, and other compressed formats are decoded before browser waveform analysis. File size, codec artifacts, and encoder metadata do not map directly to the PCM samples shown. Preserve the original audio and note the browser-supported decode path when a visual finding must be reproduced elsewhere.
