MGRS Converter

MGRS is a grid reference derived from UTM. Precision digits identify a grid cell, so decoding reports that cell center rather than pretending the reference is an infinitely precise point.

MGRS names a grid cell

MGRS is derived from UTM and is normally used from 80°S to 84°N. The number of easting/northing digits controls cell size; decoding reports the cell center so precision is not overstated.

Datum matters

This page uses WGS84, matching the existing WebToolArc UTM tools. A coordinate from another datum can shift if interpreted as WGS84.
