Plus Code Converter

Full Plus Codes can be decoded offline. Short Plus Codes need a nearby reference location, so this page deliberately accepts full codes only.

Plus Code precision & decoded-cell evidence

The original encode/decode controls above remain unchanged. This companion workspace exposes the bounds already produced by the Open Location Code engine, compares 8/10/11-digit full codes from one coordinate, estimates cell dimensions, and creates a map handoff for the decoded center.

Full Plus Codes decode globally. Short local codes still require an external reference location and are intentionally not guessed here.

Full Plus Codes work offline

Open Location Code converts WGS84 latitude/longitude directly into a code. Full codes can be decoded without a place-name service.

Short codes need context

Short Plus Codes intentionally omit area digits and require a nearby reference location to recover. This browser-local page accepts full codes only rather than pretending a locality lookup occurred.

Practical guide and verification

Use the tool first, then apply these checks to verify the inputs, interpret the result, and hand it off without displacing the primary workflow.

Match code length to the location precision you need

A Plus Code names an area, not a mathematically exact point. Shorter full codes cover larger cells while 10- and 11-digit codes narrow the cell substantially. The precision workspace below shows several full-code lengths from the same coordinate so you can see what information is actually being preserved.

Use decoded bounds as evidence, not only the center

Decoding to one latitude and longitude can make the result look more precise than the code itself. Keep the south, west, north, and east bounds with the center point when handing a code to mapping, field, delivery, or data-quality workflows. The cell dimensions explain the positional envelope.

Keep datum and coordinate assumptions explicit

Plus Codes use latitude and longitude on the Earth rather than a street-address database. A valid code does not verify that a road, building, entrance, or named place exists inside the cell. Cross-check operational destinations against an appropriate map or field observation before relying on them.

Do not confuse a full code with a shortened local code

A full Plus Code includes enough leading area information to decode globally. A shortened code needs a reference locality or reference coordinate to recover the omitted prefix. This page keeps the core converter global and explicit; do not paste a local short code and assume it can be decoded without context.
