Practical guide and verification
The conversion
One minute is exactly 60 seconds, so seconds = minutes × 60. Decimal minutes are valid: 1.5 minutes is 90 seconds, not “1 minute 50 seconds.”
Decimal versus clock notation
A value such as 2.30 minutes means 2.3 decimal minutes unless the input explicitly uses a minutes:seconds format. Confusing decimal notation with a clock display is a common source of errors.
Negative and fractional values
Negative values can represent offsets or differences; fractions can represent precise durations. Decide whether the context allows them before rounding the result.
