Grayscale appearance is not the same as print production conversion

A browser-side grayscale export can remove visible color from page rendering, but professional print workflows may require a specific grayscale ICC profile, spot-color handling, overprint rules, or preservation of vector objects. Use this tool for practical visual conversion, then inspect the exported PDF in the actual print or archival workflow when color management matters.

Inspect every page after conversion

PDF pages can combine text, vectors, images, transparency, forms, and embedded resources. A representative first page is not enough. Check image-heavy pages, gradients, charts, annotations, and pages with transparency to make sure the grayscale rendering still communicates the intended distinctions.

Color-coded information may lose meaning

Two categories that are clearly different in color can collapse to similar gray values. Charts, heat maps, status colors, and instructional diagrams are especially vulnerable. After conversion, verify labels, patterns, line styles, or contrast provide enough redundant information so the document remains understandable without color.

Keep the original PDF

Conversion can be intentionally lossy with respect to color information even when page geometry is preserved. Store the source separately and give the grayscale export a distinct filename. If file size or accessibility also matters, evaluate those goals independently rather than assuming a grayscale conversion automatically optimizes or remediates the document.
