A compact marking can encode nominal capacitance and sometimes tolerance. Voltage rating, dielectric, ESR and DC-bias behavior are separate.

EIA-198 is case sensitive

The value character may be uppercase or lowercase. Preserve the printed case before decoding.

How to cross-check the result

Decode the printed marking twice: once to picofarads and once to the displayed engineering unit; the values must be equivalent.
