Square Pyramid Calculator: Volume, Area & Diagram

Calculate square-pyramid volume, slant height, lateral and total area, edges, angles and a verification diagram.

Use consistent measurements and valid geometric assumptions

Keep linear inputs in a consistent unit, verify that side lengths or coordinate points can form the stated shape, and treat sketches as explanatory unless explicitly marked to scale. Coordinate formulas can become unstable for nearly degenerate shapes, so invalid or nearly collinear inputs are rejected rather than silently returning misleading values.

Practical guide and verification

Use the tool first, then use these checks to interpret, verify and hand off the result without displacing the primary workflow.

Distinguish vertical height from slant height

The volume formula uses the perpendicular height from the base to the apex, while lateral-area formulas use slant height. Entering one in place of the other produces a plausible but incorrect result. Compare the labeled diagram with the measurement you actually have before calculating.

Verify the base really is square

A square pyramid assumes four equal base sides and an apex positioned according to the model used by the formulas. If the base is rectangular or irregular, use the matching geometry tool instead. A correct formula applied to the wrong solid is still the wrong model.

Cross-check one derived length

Compute the slant height from the base half-width and vertical height with the Pythagorean theorem, then compare it with the reported value. This quick round-trip check catches unit-entry mistakes and makes the relationship between height, face geometry, area, and volume easier to audit.

Keep units consistent through area and volume

Use one length unit for every input. The resulting surface area uses squared units and volume uses cubed units, so a hidden centimetre/metre mix can create very large errors. Convert dimensions first, calculate second, and attach the correct squared or cubed unit to exported results.
