UPC-E Barcode Generator

Enter UPC-E or a compressible UPC-A. The check digit, zero-suppression conversion, barcode preview and export update instantly in your browser.

UPC-E: 7 digits without the check digit or 8 complete digits. Current GS1 UPC-E uses number system 0. UPC-A: 11 body digits or 12 complete digits beginning with 0; only zero-suppressible values can convert.

Parity carries the check digitUPC-E encodes the check digit through the odd/even parity of its six visible payload digits.

GS1 number-system boundaryCurrent GS1 UPC-E represents GTIN-12 data beginning with 0; legacy number-system 1 is not generated here.
Assignment boundaryStructural validity does not prove that GS1 or any retailer assigned the identifier.

SVG is the safest choice when artwork will be resized. Keep quiet zones clear and scan-test the final printed/exported symbol at the actual production size.

What this generator does — and does not prove

UPC-E is a zero-suppressed representation of qualifying UPC-A/GTIN-12 data. This tool computes and verifies the structural conversion, check digit and barcode pattern locally. It does not issue GTINs, verify ownership/product existence, guarantee retailer acceptance, or certify print quality. Use the official GS1/retailer workflow for assignment and production requirements.

Practical guide and verification

UPC-E is a compressed representation

UPC-E represents certain UPC-A number patterns in a shorter symbol. Not every arbitrary UPC-A value can be compressed, so valid number-system and zero-suppression rules matter before bars are generated.

Check digit handling

The check digit is derived from the underlying data according to UPC rules. If a source value already includes a check digit, do not silently append another one; decide whether the tool expects payload digits or the complete code.

Common mistake

A symbol that visually resembles UPC-E is not necessarily valid retail data. The compressed digits must expand to the intended UPC-A value, and the result must use the correct number system and check digit.

Standards and assignment boundary

Use the exact symbology required by the receiving system. WebToolArc can validate supported syntax and check digits, but it does not allocate GS1 identifiers, certify regulated documents, or guarantee acceptance by a particular scanner, retailer, carrier, or institution.
