ZIP File Creator: Archive Plan, Ratio & Path Audit

Audit selected files, folder paths, extension mix, duplicates, input/output ratio and archive naming before downloading a browser-created ZIP.

File handling notes

connects ZIP creation/extraction, archive inspection, GZIP, TAR/TAR.GZ extraction, ZIP merging, multi-ZIP extraction, splitting/joining, duplicate detection, renaming, folder summaries, file inventories, and file-type inspection without requiring a file upload where the browser APIs support the task.

Archive and safety boundaries

Browser memory can limit very large files. TAR extraction supports ordinary TAR/USTAR regular files and directories rather than every PAX/sparse/link edge case. Password-protected or uncommon ZIP compression methods can exceed JSZip support. Normalized download paths do not grant arbitrary filesystem write access.

Practical guide and verification

Use the tool first, then use these checks to interpret, verify and hand off the result without displacing the primary workflow.

Preview paths before building the archive

A ZIP is more than a list of bytes: internal paths determine what recipients see after extraction. Check the optional root folder, folder-relative paths, duplicate names, and case differences before creating the archive so files do not overwrite or appear in an unexpected directory structure.

Choose compression based on the actual file mix

Maximum Deflate is useful for some text and source files but often provides little benefit for JPEG, MP4, PDF, ZIP, and other already-compressed formats. Compare input size and final ZIP size, and prefer a faster level when the extra CPU time produces negligible savings.

Keep the source until the archive is independently opened

A successful browser download is not the same as a verified deliverable. Open or extract the finished ZIP with the software that will receive it, confirm the expected file count and a few representative files, and retain the original selection until that verification is complete.

Treat metadata and encryption as separate requirements

Ordinary browser ZIP creation may not preserve every filesystem permission, extended attribute, timestamp, link type, or specialized archive feature. It also does not imply password protection. If those properties are required, verify them with a tool and format that explicitly supports the needed metadata or encryption model.
