Comma-Separated List to Lines

Parse quoted comma-separated values locally and preserve commas or doubled quotes inside quoted items.

Before / afterLine endingsUTF-8 bytesRepeat safely

Text cleanup runs locally in your browser. These tools operate on plain text lines; structured CSV/JSON/XML and regex workflows remain in their dedicated tools.

CSV parse & dedupe audit

Parse quoted comma-separated fields, blanks and duplicates before line export.

Quoted commas stay inside one item

The parser treats doubled double-quotes inside quoted fields as literal quotes and rejects an unclosed quoted field.

Repeatable text workflow

Use output as input only when the preview is what you intended. Restore returns to the page-load sample, and the before/after audit remains local to your browser.

Practical guide and verification

Use the product workflow above first. These notes add interpretation, verification and limits below the interactive result area.

Quoted commas are data, not separators

CSV-style text can contain commas inside quoted fields. A naive split on every comma will break values such as “Los Angeles, CA” into two items. Use the parser result, then inspect a few quoted records before trusting a large cleanup.

Trim and deduplicate only when the task permits it

Whitespace around items is often accidental, while repeated values may be meaningful in counts, votes or ordered datasets. Turn on trimming or deduplication deliberately and compare the before-and-after item count so a cleanup step does not silently change the meaning of the list.

Choose line output for the next tool in the workflow

One-item-per-line text is convenient for spreadsheets, batch forms, command-line inputs and visual review. If the destination expects CSV again, preserve quoting rules rather than assuming the line representation can be joined with commas without escaping.

Blank fields need an explicit decision

Two adjacent commas can represent an empty field. Depending on the task, that empty value may be an error to remove or an important missing-data marker to preserve. Review the item count and blank entries before replacing the source.

Round-trip a small sample when structure matters

Take several representative items, including one with punctuation and one quoted comma, convert them to lines, then reconstruct the intended list format. A successful sample round trip is stronger evidence than simply seeing a plausible-looking output block.
