Color and accessibility boundaries

HEX/RGB/HSL/HSV/OKLCH conversions are numerical color-model operations. CMYK output is an RGB-derived approximation rather than ICC-profiled print proofing. WCAG contrast ratios measure luminance contrast only and do not certify a full interface. Color-blindness previews are design simulations, not medical tests.

Practical guide and verification

Use the product first, then apply these tool-specific checks to verify assumptions, interpret the result, and hand it off safely without moving the primary workflow below generic content.

Confirm whether eight-digit HEX is RRGGBBAA or AARRGGBB

Web CSS uses #RRGGBBAA, but some graphics and native platforms store alpha first. The same eight digits can therefore describe different channels across systems. Check the destination convention before copying. A color preview helps with obvious mistakes, but channel order should still be verified from the target format specification.

Alpha bytes and CSS alpha decimals use different scales

An alpha byte runs from 00 to FF, while rgba() commonly expresses opacity from 0 to 1 or as a percentage. Converting requires dividing the byte by 255. Preserve enough decimal precision for round trips, then format only the displayed value. Rounding too early can change the byte obtained when converting back.

Compare the composited color on the intended background

A semi-transparent color does not have one final visible RGB value; it depends on the background. When matching UI colors, preview the RGBA color over the actual surface rather than only over white. For accessibility contrast, evaluate the composited foreground and background colors, not the unblended source channels.

Keep color conversion separate from color-management claims

HEX and RGBA conversion changes notation, not gamut, ICC profiles, transfer functions, or calibrated appearance. Two devices can render identical CSS values differently. Use this tool for channel arithmetic and syntax; use a color-managed design or measurement workflow when physical display matching or print reproduction matters.
