HEX/RGB/HSL/HSV/OKLCH conversions are numerical color-model operations. CMYK output is an RGB-derived approximation rather than ICC-profiled print proofing. WCAG contrast ratios measure luminance contrast only and do not certify a full interface. Color-blindness previews are design simulations, not medical tests.

Keep alpha when the destination format supports it

Six-digit #RRGGBB stores red, green and blue only. CSS eight-digit hex uses #RRGGBBAA, with alpha in the final byte. Dropping alpha from a translucent RGBA color changes how it appears over any background.

Convert alpha on the correct scale

CSS rgba() commonly expresses alpha from 0 through 1, while the hex alpha byte runs from 00 through FF. Multiply the normalized alpha by 255 and round to the intended byte before appending it to RRGGBB.

Transparency has no single visible RGB result

A translucent foreground only becomes a final displayed color after it is composited over a background. If you need the actual on-screen RGB value, calculate the blend against the real background instead of treating the foreground RGB components as the displayed color.

Contrast depends on the composited color

Accessibility contrast should be evaluated using the final rendered foreground and background, not an isolated semi-transparent RGBA token. Test the blend on the actual background and include hover, disabled or overlay states when those colors change.

Round-trip the bytes for verification

Convert RGBA to eight-digit hex, split the result back into RR, GG, BB and AA bytes, and confirm the RGB integers plus alpha/255 reproduce the starting values within rounding. This catches swapped alpha order and incorrect 0–100 scaling.
