RGB to HSV Converter

Enter RGB channels to calculate hue, saturation, and value with a live preview.

Color and accessibility boundaries

HEX/RGB/HSL/HSV/OKLCH conversions are numerical color-model operations. CMYK output is an RGB-derived approximation rather than ICC-profiled print proofing. WCAG contrast ratios measure luminance contrast only and do not certify a full interface. Color-blindness previews are design simulations, not medical tests.

Use this result with confidence

Check channel bounds before converting

RGB-to-HSV math assumes red, green, and blue are interpreted on the same 0–255 scale. Values outside that range or values copied from a 0–1 graphics API can produce a plausible-looking but wrong result. Confirm the input scale first, then keep the original RGB triplet beside the converted hue, saturation, and value for a clean round-trip check.

Hue becomes unstable near gray

When the maximum and minimum RGB channels are almost equal, saturation approaches zero and hue carries little visual meaning. Two nearly gray colors can report very different hue angles because tiny channel differences dominate the calculation. For neutral colors, treat saturation and value as the useful coordinates and avoid making design decisions from hue alone.

Use the preview as a visual check, not a color-management proof

The swatch can reveal obvious entry errors, but browser previews depend on the display, color profile, brightness, and surrounding colors. If the value will be used for print, brand control, or accessibility, verify the numeric color in the target workflow. Copying HEX, RGB, HSL, and HSV together also makes handoff easier to audit.

Verify a round trip when precision matters

Convert RGB to HSV, then reconstruct RGB from the HSV result with the same rounding policy. Small one-channel differences can appear because HSV values are usually rounded for display. Keep extra decimals during calculation and round only at the final presentation step when exact regression tests or generated palettes are involved.
