Color and accessibility boundaries

HEX/RGB/HSL/HSV/OKLCH conversions are numerical color-model operations. CMYK output is an RGB-derived approximation rather than ICC-profiled print proofing. WCAG contrast ratios measure luminance contrast only and do not certify a full interface. Color-blindness previews are design simulations, not medical tests.

Remember that HSL is another representation of the same sRGB color

Converting HEX to HSL does not create a new color space with wider gamut or better perceptual uniformity. It expresses an sRGB color through hue, saturation and lightness, which is often easier to edit by eye. Round-trip the HSL value back to RGB or HEX when exact handoff matters.

Handle gray colors and hue carefully

When saturation is zero, hue has no visible effect and different implementations may report a conventional hue value. Do not interpret that number as meaningful color direction for a gray. Near-gray colors can also have unstable-looking hue changes because a tiny channel difference determines the angle.

Distinguish HSL lightness from perceived brightness

Fifty percent HSL lightness does not mean a color appears halfway between black and white to human vision. Equal HSL steps are not perceptually equal. For accessible contrast, palette interpolation, or color-difference work, use the dedicated contrast or perceptual color tools instead of assuming HSL lightness predicts visual readability.

Keep alpha separate from six-digit HEX

A six-digit HEX value contains red, green and blue but no transparency. If the source uses eight-digit HEX or another alpha representation, preserve the alpha value separately when moving to HSL. Dropping alpha can make the converted color look wrong once it is composited on the intended background.
