HSL to HEX: CSS, Contrast & Color Audit

Convert HSL to HEX with RGB and CSS tokens, relative luminance, white and black contrast ratios, and accessibility evidence.

Color and accessibility boundaries

HEX/RGB/HSL/HSV/OKLCH conversions are numerical color-model operations. CMYK output is an RGB-derived approximation rather than ICC-profiled print proofing. WCAG contrast ratios measure luminance contrast only and do not certify a full interface. Color-blindness previews are design simulations, not medical tests.

Practical guide and verification

Use the tool first, then apply these checks to verify the inputs, interpret the result, and hand it off without displacing the primary workflow.

Keep HSL inputs inside their intended ranges

Hue wraps around the color wheel while saturation and lightness are percentages. Normalize or reject out-of-range values deliberately instead of relying on a browser or downstream CSS parser to repair them differently. Record whether hue wrapping occurred when the converted value is part of a design token pipeline.

Round-trip before replacing a production color

Convert the HEX result back to a color representation and compare the channel values within normal rounding tolerance. HSL and RGB describe the same sRGB color through different coordinate systems, so small numeric differences can appear after rounding without indicating a different visible color.

Judge accessibility in the final pairing

A color value alone has no contrast ratio. Test the converted foreground against the actual background, font size, weight, opacity, and state colors used by the interface. A visually attractive swatch is not evidence that text, icons, focus rings, or disabled states meet accessibility requirements.

Preserve the color-space boundary

This converter targets ordinary CSS-style sRGB values. Do not assume the result preserves wide-gamut Display-P3, print CMYK, spot colors, or color-managed asset profiles. Keep the original color specification when moving between workflows that use a different color space.
