Syntax validity and address meaning are separate
A valid IPv4 address has four decimal octets in the permitted numeric range, but a syntactically valid address can still belong to private, loopback, link-local, multicast, documentation, benchmark, or other special-use space. Classification describes the numeric range; it does not prove that the address is reachable or assigned to a particular host.
Verify in the network context that matters
When an address will be used in configuration, check the relevant subnet prefix, routing table, NAT design, firewall rules, and current allocation policy. Avoid treating “public-looking” syntax as evidence of Internet reachability. Parsers in programming languages can also differ on shorthand, leading zeroes, or noncanonical forms, so use strict dotted-decimal notation when interoperable configuration is the goal.
