APA Citation Generator

Build APA 7 references and matching in-text citations from visible metadata, import DOI/ISBN or reference-manager records, audit missing fields, and finish a complete References page in one browser-local project.

APA 7 Citation & References Studio

Create a source record once, review the full reference and matching in-text forms, then assemble a complete References page. DOI lookup uses Crossref and ISBN lookup uses Open Library only when you request it; arbitrary webpage scraping is intentionally not claimed.

Batch DOI/ISBN lookup or reference-manager import

Crossref and Open Library records can be incomplete. Every imported record stays editable and should be checked against the exact version you used.

Managed APA source list

References sort by author (or title when no author is present). Same-author/same-year sources receive a/b/c suffixes in title order and matching in-text forms.

Ready. Metadata lookup and imports are evidence, not verification; review each source against the source itself and any course-specific requirements.

APA 7 workflow: source facts first, formatting second

The strongest citation workflow separates metadata judgment from punctuation. Confirm who is credited, what date the source actually gives, which title belongs to the specific work, and where the reader can retrieve the work. Then let the formatter apply APA ordering, punctuation, italics, DOI/URL normalization, and in-text forms.

Author or group authorUse the credited person or organization. Do not invent a personal author when the source credits an organization.
DateUse the source’s publication or update date when appropriate. Missing dates become n.d.; retrieval dates are mainly for content designed to change.
Title and sourceAPA capitalization and italics depend on whether the work stands alone or sits inside a larger publication such as a journal or book.
DOI before ordinary URLWhen a DOI exists, the Studio normalizes it to an https://doi.org/ address and prefers it as the source location.
In-text locatorsAdd page, paragraph, section, chapter, or timestamp locators when your quotation or assignment needs a precise location.
References pageFinal entries are alphabetized, double-spaced, and shown with half-inch hanging indents; same-author/same-year sources get matching a/b/c suffixes.

Automated metadata can be incomplete, and citation software cannot decide every edge case. Review unusual sources against the exact source you used plus any instructor, journal, institutional, or official APA guidance that governs your submission.

When this APA generator is most useful

Use the Studio when you need more than a single formatted line: building multiple references for one assignment, keeping matching in-text forms beside each source, checking metadata gaps, handling same-author/same-year disambiguation, or exporting the finished References page. DOI and ISBN lookup can reduce typing, but imported facts remain editable because metadata services do not always describe the exact version you used.

What the generator does not claim

It does not scrape arbitrary webpages or replace source evaluation. Browser-only webpage scraping is unreliable across sites, and a formatter cannot determine whether a footer year is the publication date, whether a group should be treated as author, or whether a local instructor rule overrides the general pattern.

Privacy and repeat-use workflow

Manual source records and saved projects are browser-local. Portable links embed a limited project payload in the URL hash; anyone who receives that link can read that embedded citation metadata. Use JSON export instead when a project is too large for a URL.

Accuracy boundary

A citation generator can format only the metadata it receives. WebToolArc keeps manual inputs visible, distinguishes explicit DOI/ISBN lookups from arbitrary webpage scraping, and recommends checking instructor, journal, institutional, and source-specific exceptions before submission.

How to use this APA Citation Generator

Choose the source type first. Enter details manually, or switch to DOI/ISBN lookup when those identifiers exist. The page generates a reference plus parenthetical and narrative in-text forms, and saved references stay in this browser.

Accuracy and limits

APA reference accuracy depends on the metadata supplied and on the exact source type. DOI lookup uses Crossref and ISBN lookup uses Open Library only when requested. Arbitrary webpage scraping is not claimed because browser cross-origin rules make it unreliable without a backend.
