Parenthetical and narrative citations place author information differently, and direct quotations can require location information. Choose the citation form that matches how the source appears in your sentence.

Author handling

Verify whether the source credits a person, multiple people, or an organization. Do not infer an author from a domain name or page owner when the source does not actually make that attribution.

Year and missing dates

Use the date the source provides under the applicable style rules. A copyright footer or current access date is not automatically the publication year.

Accuracy boundary
