Citation rules can vary by source details, instructor, institution, journal, and style revision. Use this as a drafting tool and verify the final entry against the style guide required for your work.

Core citation, in-text & export workflows

Start with the broad generator or required style, then move to a source-specific or bibliography specialist only when the metadata or submission format genuinely changes.

Accuracy boundary

A citation generator can format only the metadata it receives. WebToolArc keeps manual inputs visible, distinguishes explicit DOI/ISBN lookups from arbitrary webpage scraping, and recommends checking instructor, journal, institutional, and source-specific exceptions before submission.

Start from the article metadata, not the page layout

Journal citation fields should come from the article record: authors, article title, journal title, year, volume, issue, pages or article number, and DOI when available. A visually prominent website header is not necessarily the journal container.

A DOI lookup still needs human verification

Metadata services can return abbreviated journal titles, incomplete author names, online-first dates or missing issue and page information. Compare the generated record with the publisher page or article PDF before using it in a final bibliography.

Style rules change punctuation and author handling

APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard and IEEE can format the same metadata differently, including author order, title casing, date position and DOI presentation. Keep the selected style visible with the saved reference.

DOI and URL are identifiers, not interchangeable decoration

Prefer the DOI when the citation style calls for a persistent article identifier. Do not append a publisher URL merely because it is available if the selected style and source type do not require it.

Exported BibTeX is a handoff format

A BibTeX record can save retyping, but bibliography managers may apply their own style transformations later. Check author parsing, braces around significant capitalization, DOI, year and journal fields after import rather than assuming the export is final copy.
