Practical guide and verification
What this conversion means
Foot-pound force and newton-metre are both torque units. The conversion is exact enough for engineering work when you keep sufficient precision: 1 ft·lbf ≈ 1.355818 N·m for practical conversion.
Worked check
A quick reasonableness check is direction: converting ft·lbf to N·m should increase the numeric value by about 35.6%. If the number becomes smaller, the conversion direction was probably reversed.
Where errors happen
Torque specifications are often rounded by manufacturers, so a converted value may not exactly match a service manual that published both units independently. Do not treat a rounding difference as a new mechanical tolerance.
