Roof Pitch Calculator

Enter any rise/run pair or choose a common pitch to inspect angle, percent slope, factor, and a reference table for nearby roof pitches.

—Pitch
—Angle
—Slope
—Rafter factor
—Geometry conversion only

Common pitch reference

Compare nearby x/12 pitches instead of converting one value in isolation.

PitchAngleSlopeFactor
Roof pitch is geometric slope. Roofing-product limits, walkability and structural design are separate questions.

Pitch geometry & surface multiplier

Convert slope into rise and sloped length for a chosen run, plus a plan-area surface multiplier.

Audit uses the visible inputs plus the assumptions shown here.

Field measurement & procurement tolerance audit

Rebuild the visible project math independently, then perturb the field measurements to expose a min/base/max envelope before cutting or ordering. This is a planning cross-check, not structural engineering, code approval, or supplier certification.

Refresh the field audit after entering project measurements above.
Browser-local planning cross-check. Verify final dimensions on site before cutting or ordering.

Carry measurement uncertainty into the material decision

Use the exact calculator first, then stress-test realistic field measurement and rounding tolerance before a cut or purchase. Keep structural design, code approval and supplier specifications outside the browser estimate.

Practical guide and verification

Pitch describes geometry

Roof pitch relates vertical rise to horizontal run. Slope ratio, degrees and percentage are different representations of the same geometric relationship, but they should not be mixed without conversion.

Use horizontal run

For common pitch notation, the denominator is based on horizontal run rather than the sloped rafter length. Using the hypotenuse as the run produces the wrong angle and rise.

Common mistake

Do not infer drainage, structural adequacy or roofing-material suitability from pitch alone. Climate, span, loading, underlayment and manufacturer requirements are separate design considerations.

Planning notes

Start with the measurement this calculator asks for, then use related length, area/volume, roof, stair, material, waste, or cut-planning tools only when the job needs them. Inputs and results stay in the browser.
