Wallpaper Calculator

Calculate net wall area and the number of wallpaper rolls to buy.

—Net wall area
—Area with allowance
—Rolls
—Material cost

Actual usable coverage can be lower for large pattern repeats, matching, trimming, and roll format. Use the coverage printed for your product when available.

Carry measurement uncertainty into the material decision

Use the exact calculator first, then stress-test realistic field measurement and rounding tolerance before a cut or purchase. Keep structural design, code approval and supplier specifications outside the browser estimate.

Area estimate plus pattern-aware drop planning

Area-per-roll is useful for a quick check, but patterned wallpaper is often constrained by full-height drops and pattern repeat. v265 exposes both models.

Use the product label as the final purchase input

Coverage, package size, density, pattern repeat and usable yield vary by manufacturer and material. v265 keeps these values editable and shows rounding/overage explicitly instead of presenting a default as a hidden certainty.

Practical guide and verification

Use the tool first, then apply these checks to verify the inputs, interpret the result, and hand it off without displacing the primary workflow.

Use finished wall dimensions, not floor area

Wallpaper quantity is driven by wall coverage. Measure the wall perimeter or individual wall widths and the finished papered height, then subtract openings only when the product-planning method actually allows that credit. A room with the same floor area can require very different wallpaper amounts depending on wall height and layout.

Separate area allowance from pattern-match loss

A generic waste percentage covers trimming, damage, and small measurement uncertainty, while a large vertical pattern repeat can reduce the usable drops from each roll. If the manufacturer publishes pattern-repeat or usable-coverage guidance, use that information instead of assuming one waste percentage represents every source of loss.

Round by the roll format you can actually buy

The geometric estimate may produce a fractional roll, but wallpaper is purchased in whole roll units or paired double-roll formats. Confirm the seller terminology, roll width, roll length, and labeled coverage before ordering. Round the final purchase quantity to the available package unit rather than to an arbitrary decimal amount.

Keep dye-lot and spare-material needs in the order decision

A mathematically exact quantity can still be risky if a replacement roll later comes from a visibly different dye lot. For rooms where matching matters, consider the installer or manufacturer recommendation for spare material after the calculator estimate. Record the product code and lot information with the final order so future repairs are easier to match.
