Strikethrough Text Generator

Generate strikethrough text in six copy-and-paste Unicode styles at once. Compare classic strike, short strike, slash, tilde and underline variants, inspect the exact combining marks, reverse decorated text back to clean source, or use Markdown and semantic HTML when real formatting is the better choice.

Strikethrough authority

Cross out text, inspect the mark, and keep a clean fallback

Compare multiple Unicode overlays side by side, then verify exactly which combining mark was attached to each grapheme. Reverse cleanup removes supported decoration marks without touching the underlying text.

These outputs are Unicode characters or combining marks, not downloadable font files. Coverage and appearance vary by app, font, language, and operating system; unsupported characters are intentionally preserved. Styled Unicode may also affect search, accessibility, or screen-reader pronunciation, so keep ordinary text for critical content.

Unicode style comparison

Compare related copyable Unicode transformations before choosing one.

These are Unicode character substitutions or combining marks, not font files. Appearance, search, accessibility, copy/paste behavior and unsupported characters vary by app and font.

Copy-paste vs semantic strikethrough

Choose actual Unicode combining marks or copy markup for Markdown/HTML instead of treating all three methods as equivalent.

Unicode vs markup
Unicode combining marks are copy-paste styling; Markdown/HTML are semantic markup only where the destination renderer supports them.

Destination portability & copy-budget audit

Measure the actual rendered Unicode output against an editable destination limit. This audit does not promise that a platform, font, search system, screen reader, moderation pipeline or identifier field will preserve styled Unicode.

Refresh after entering text above.
Use the actual destination's documented limit when it matters.

Style once, then check whether the destination can carry it

Unicode styling can increase code points, UTF-16 units and UTF-8 bytes even when the text looks the same length. Compare the current output against the destination's real limit, then keep a normalization or plain-text fallback ready.

Practical guide and verification

How the effect is created

Portable “strikethrough text” often uses Unicode combining marks rather than real rich-text formatting. The mark is attached to characters, so appearance depends on the font and rendering engine.

Compatibility

Some apps normalize, reorder, filter, or poorly render combining characters. Test the generated text in the exact destination instead of assuming the preview will match everywhere.

Accessibility

Decorative combining marks can make copying, searching, pronunciation, and screen-reader output less predictable. For important content, native formatting such as HTML `<s>`/CSS or an editor’s strikethrough command is usually better.

Text and Unicode limits

Editorial title-case rules have edge cases, syllable counts are heuristic, Unicode style substitutions depend on font/app support, and normalized or visually similar Unicode text is not automatically safe or equivalent. Structural XML comparison should use the XML-aware engine rather than a raw line diff.

Apply overlays once per grapheme cluster

Combining strike/underline marks are attached once per user-perceived character rather than to every code point inside emoji or decomposed text.
