Compare current-card and transfer payoff paths with fee, promo deadline payment, total finance cost and break-even savings evidence.

Core borrowing, saving & investing workflows

Start with the broad calculator that matches the decision, then move to a specialist only when the loan structure, cash flow, tax treatment, debt strategy or savings goal genuinely changes.

Compare debt and rate scenarios

connects debt payoff, credit-card cost, loan comparison, APR/APY, effective-rate, weighted-rate, and hypothetical consolidation calculations.

Compare assumptions, not offers

Results are deterministic browser-local math from the values you enter. They are useful for scenario comparison, but they are not a lender quote, approval decision, investment forecast, credit recommendation, or substitute for an account agreement.

How to use this Balance Transfer Calculator

Enter the current balance/APR and promotional transfer terms to compare modeled costs; no page fetches live card offers or recommends an issuer.

Practical guide and verification

Use the tool first, then use these checks to interpret, verify and hand off the result without displacing the primary workflow.

Separate the transfer fee from the promotional rate

A zero-percent promotional APR can still have an immediate transfer fee. Include that fee when comparing the amount that must be repaid and the savings versus the existing card. A headline rate without its fee can make a transfer look cheaper than it is.

Model the end of the promotional period

If a balance remains when the promotion expires, the post-promotion APR can change the payoff cost sharply. Test a payment amount that clears the modeled balance before the deadline and a fallback scenario that does not. This makes the break-even conclusion less dependent on one optimistic payment plan.

Check whether new purchases follow different rules

Some cards apply separate APRs, grace-period rules, or payment allocation to purchases and transferred balances. Keep the comparison focused on the transferred debt unless the tool explicitly models those additional cash flows. Review the card terms before treating the estimate as a complete account forecast.

Use the result for comparison, not as a guarantee

Approval amount, credit limit, transfer timing, fees and issuer terms can differ from the assumptions entered. Preserve the current balance, existing APR, fee, promotional period, promotional APR, post-promo APR and payment assumptions when sharing the calculation so the comparison can be reproduced.
