What are signatures and creep?

Signature: breaks a long document into smaller nested booklets before binding. Creep: shifts inner sheets slightly outward to compensate for paper thickness. Leave creep at 0 for ordinary home-print jobs unless you know your stock needs it.

Booklet order is an imposition problem

Booklet printing rearranges pages so they appear in reading order after sheets are printed, folded and nested. The output page sequence therefore looks unusual if viewed as an ordinary PDF.

Page count and blanks

Booklet signatures usually work in multiples of four page faces. Blank pages may need to be inserted so the first/last pages and spreads land in the correct positions.

Common mistake

Do not confuse booklet imposition with simply placing two consecutive pages side by side. Front/back sheet order and duplex flip direction determine whether the physical booklet reads correctly.
